INSTRUCTIONS:
This pattern can be used on any piece in the studio and would be a great idea on a set!
Wipe down your piece with a damp sponge to start.
Swirling the inside: Take the Sammy Salmon and Peach Fuzz and pour them both into
the inside of the mug. You will have enough paint at the bottom of the mug to actually
move the paint around on the inside of the mug. Once you have moved the paint
around inside the mug so that it reaches all areas of the inside of the mug, flip the mug
over and let it drain out all the extra paint from the inside for about 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, take a damp sponge and clean up the rim of the mug around the outside.
Apply three levels of Pool Party to the outside of the mug, leaving the handle plain.
Taking a ¾ sponge, soak the sponge in Pool Party and dab the outside of the mug with
one nice coat of sponging in order to cover up any brush strokes the brush may have
left.
While the base is drying, start tracing the image of Cherry Blossoms onto a sheet of
transfer paper. You can use google images to find the right image for whatever piece
you choose!
Once the base is dry, hold the transfer paper to the outside of the mug and trace over
the pencil lines with a sharpie marker.
Take the transfer paper away from the mug and you’ll now see the image of cherry
blossoms on the outside of the mug in sharpie.
You can now fill in the image with the colors listed above, always doing three coats of
each color.
For shading, take a small dry brush and apply the “shading” colors onto the mug with
light strokes so that it leaves faint marks on the image.
To outline the image, use a small fine brush and a darker color, like Black Lab or High
Ho Silver.
Apply Nantucket blue to the handle. Use a ¾ sponge to dab the 4th coat of Nantucket
Blue to the handle to get rid of any brush strokes.
To finish, take the ¾ sponge and dab around the rim of the mug with Pool Party to clean
it up a bit.
