You're Fired
A Paint Your Own Pottery and Mosaics Studio
Bedford - Salem - Concord - Nashua
Project of the Month
Crayons make a whimsical subject for a
teacher’s gift or even a fun mug or pencil
holder for your family!  In order to
recreate crayons, we use two shades of
the same color; one for the crayon and a
slightly lighter shade for the paper
wrapper.  Add the word CRAYON to your
wrapper, if you are so inclined and/or
talented!  Directions for this project are
listed after the list of paint colors.
SUPPLIES:

Ice Cream Pint Mug Holder, sku #1733, or any mug or short pencil holder

DIRECTIONS:

Basecoat your mug(3 coats of color) on the outside with Lime Ricky, and on the inside
with Funfetti.

It takes a little time to draw your pencil margins, but you will be glad those lines are
there when you go in with color!  With a ruler and pencil, give yourself horizontal
margins at the top and on the bottom.

You will need a line for the tip of your crayons, one for the top and bottom of the
crayon wrapper, and , finally, one low margin line for the bottom of the crayons.

Then, you can go ahead and draw vertical lines lightly that are about ½” wide.  These
will become your crayons.  Don’t worry; all your pencil lines will burn off in the kiln!
This is a free hand project from here on out!  Use simple triangles as the tops of your
crayon, or give your triangle a shoulder just above the wrapper, if you want it to look
more realistic.  You’re the artist; you decide!

Be sure to do 3 coats of crayon colors to get a nice deep shade.  When all crayons are
completed, you will want a tiny paint brush or a writer for the black details of your
crayons.  Refer to project photo for black design elements.
