INSTRUCTIONS:
This is a very versatile pattern that can be easily changed to make it uniquely your
own. Choose a different size or shape flower pot or vase. Choose you own colors, add
more flowers, or less. More lady bugs? Or none at all. Customize it by wring your own
special message to Mom.
Wipe down your piece with a damp sponge and rough sketch where you want your
flowers and lady bugs to be. Mark off which color each flower will be by writing the color
next to the flower. You want to have at least one flower of each color not next to the
same. Depending on the size of the flower and or planter you chose, use a medium to
large brush and apply 3-4 coats of paint like a thin frosting to each petal. When the
petals have dried paint a circle inside of the flower with the Old Yeller to create the
center. Let dry. Use the end of a new pencil eraser to create the lady bug. Dip the
end into a dab of the Red Blaze. Just like a stamp firmly press the eraser where you
have marked off your lady bugs.
Now it is time to finish your detail work and personalize your piece. Use the pencil to
write your desired message. On our project we wrote MOM along the rim of the drip.
Using the Black Lab writer pen loosely out line your flower petals, circle the centers
and add a swirl or black dots to the middle of the yellow. Paint a line down the center
of the lady bug, add a black head with antennae. Don’t forget the dots! Trace your
writing with the black writer. Add a few dots here and there on the piece and you’re
done!
Helpful Hints- Ask to use a practice plate to get an idea of how the writer pens work.
When using the writer over paint they work best if the paint is as dry as possible. Use
the pin to clear out the tip every so often to prevent the tip from clogging. You shouldn’
t have to squeeze too hard for the paint to come out.
